Newish follower so please tell me if you have discussed this before or in your book…can you talk about couples and charitable giving decisions? When philosophies are different? How to navigate those at EOY? Donor advised funds, etc. Thanks so much!
Hi Mary, welcome! This is such an excellent and dynamic question. We do address it in our book within the context of religion, because giving is so often part of our value systems borne from religious beliefs. Even when we share the same principles (giving is good, and we both believe we should give), putting them into practice can look and feel different for everyone. I'd say first that you should never put charitable donations before your family's proximate financial needs, regardless of any community or family pressures to do so. The gray area beyond that requires a longer explanation. This could be an excellent next post for the holiday season (and thank you for that!).
Thank you! I just reserved your book at the library (hopeful that is a supportive method)! Definitely looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the gray area as that may help us fine tune our strategy. :)
Congrats on the extra mile, hope the guests all had a meaningful, restful time with your family. Looking into your next mile coming soon!
