YES on the pots and pans. My grandma bought us a set of Revere Ware pots and pans for our wedding (that I did not register for) and we are still using them 15 years later because of the quality.
Also, YES on all the financial planning items as well (of course). ;)
The people who are getting married now seem far wiser than I was starting out. One family member asked for the Darth Vader waffle maker. I know this means lots of breakfasts are going to be home. I happily bought it for them. A fun gift so they can laugh.

My first summer job was at Williams-Sonoma and I remember registering hundreds of people over the three months. I spent every day walking around the store with the scanner and trying to help people pick tableware and pans.
