So I do understand the need to cut back, and I know these decisions are deeply personal. but the problem to me is then folks who work in these industries (childcare, aestheticians, etc) will all suffer as a result of our not spending. It all ends at the bottom and other peoples livelihoods become less manageable. We can’t forget that we’re all interconnected in this economy that is faltering because someone hasn’t read an Econ textbook since 1980.

That is certainly a problem. When people cannot afford to spend as much, then they buy less, which has an impact on the livelihood of others. We are all interconnected. But I also think it’s dangerous to ourselves to believe we are individually responsible for systemic problems. Meaning, if I could no longer afford to get my eyebrows waxed because I lost my job, I cannot be more concerned with my aesthetician retaining a client than I am about my own resources. Personal and social responsibility is a delicate dance, and I think we all just have to do our best to be mindful of both.

Yes absolutely it’s not on an individual person I agree with that. Thank you for the thoughtful response.
